Who we are & why we built this

A free, independent wellness resource making evidence-informed breathing and meditation practices accessible to everyone — no app, no paywall, no gimmicks.

Our story

BreatheForCalm was born from a simple frustration: the best tools for managing stress — breathing exercises, candle gazing, mantra practice — have been freely available for thousands of years in the Indian yoga tradition. Yet most people either don’t know them, or find the guidance locked behind expensive apps, paywalls, or academic papers written for researchers rather than people.

We are based in West Bengal, India, where the tradition of pranayama and dhyana runs deep. We built BreatheForCalm to honour that tradition and make it genuinely useful for modern life: for the student preparing for a competitive exam, the professional in a high-pressure job, the parent who cannot sleep, and anyone who simply wants to feel a little calmer today.

Our content standards

  • Accuracy: claims are supported by published, peer-reviewed research. Where evidence is limited or mixed, we say so.
  • Safety: every technique includes specific safety notes and contraindications.
  • Honesty: we never claim that breathing cures disease.
  • Transparency about AI: some of our weekly articles are researched and drafted with the help of AI (Google Gemini) under strict editorial instructions — evidence-based claims only, honest limitations and clear safety guidance. These articles are labelled at the end of each post.
  • Advertising: we are supported by Google AdSense. Ads are clearly separated from our content and never influence what we write.
  • Updates: articles are reviewed and corrected when we find errors or when new research appears.

Our impact

We keep an anonymous, privacy-friendly count of how many people use the site and how many guided sessions they complete — and, if they choose to share it, whether they feel calmer afterwards. It is the best way we know to measure whether we are actually helping.

Medical disclaimer: all content on BreatheForCalm is for general wellness and educational purposes only. It is not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. If you have a health condition — including heart disease, high blood pressure, respiratory illness, epilepsy or a mental-health condition — please consult a qualified professional before starting a new breathing practice.
