About us
Who We Are & Why We Built This
BreatheForCalm is a free, independent wellness resource dedicated to making evidence-based breathing and meditation practices accessible to everyone — no app, no paywall, no gimmick.
Our story
BreatheForCalm was born from a simple frustration: the best tools for managing stress — breathing exercises, candle gazing, mantra practice — have been freely available for thousands of years in the Indian yoga tradition. Yet most people either don't know them, or find the guidance they need locked behind expensive apps, paywalls, or scattered across academic papers written for researchers rather than people.
We are based in West Bengal, India, where the tradition of pranayama and dhyana runs deep — from the ancient rishis of the Vedic age to the tens of millions who begin each morning with a few minutes of breath awareness. We built BreatheForCalm to honour that tradition and make it genuinely useful for modern life: for the student cramming for a competitive exam, the professional navigating a high-pressure career, the parent trying to sleep, and the person who simply wants to feel a little calmer today.

Our content standards
Every guide on BreatheForCalm is written to the following standards:
- Accuracy: Claims are supported by published research in peer-reviewed journals. Where evidence is limited or mixed, we say so explicitly.
- Safety: Every technique includes specific safety notes and contraindications. We always mention when a practice is not suitable for particular health conditions.
- Honesty: We do not claim that breathing cures diseases. We describe what the research shows and leave it at that.
- Transparency: We are an ad-supported site. Advertisements appear in the sidebar and within articles. They are clearly distinguishable from our content.
- Updates: Articles are reviewed and updated when new research is published or when we identify errors. The "Updated" date on each article reflects genuine content review, not superficial edits.
